Weekly Wrap 18th October 2015

posted 15 Oct 2015, 18:10 by Admin at CabaSLSC

Hey Everyone,

What a gorgeous day, I have just come back from a stand up paddle around the lake and am feeling very appreciative of being able to do so.  We often forget how lucky we are to have both the lake and the beach and other beautiful waterways on the tweed coast.  That being said, accidents can happen, and quite quickly, so please always be mindful to be aware of your surrounds, check depths,  look for rips and always try to swim between the flags.  If you are unsure about the safest places to swim, check with our friendly Lifesavers, they are always up for a chat and to pass on their knowledge.

Speaking of our friendly lifesavers, if you are down the beach tomorrow morning you can observe them going through their annual proficiency requirements, whilst it is probably the one thing some dread each year, it is always so rewarding once done.  So if you do happen to catch them in action, clap them along, they all deserve it.

Nippers - Training Tomorrows Lifesavers Today

THE COOLANGATTA GOLD is Australia's most iconic surf race, Where it might not stop the Nation like the Melbourne Cup, it certainly demands the attention of most of us involved in surf clubs. The Caba Crew Nippers would like to congratulate their very own favourite Ironman Ali Day for his success as do they our very own Nipper Ironmen Finn Whitney, Reef Sommerville and Cooper Taylor who competed in the Coolangatta Gold Youth Challenge with excellent results. Im predicting some home grown Caba faces on the back of Nutrigrain boxes, or am I just  overly proud. Either way all three are champions in my eyes.

Pool proficiency was lots of fun last Sunday. The Nippers went through their paces and then spent the rest of the morning practicing rescue skills. I think they actually all forgot that they were learning vital skills for pool and beach safety. The smiles were aplenty and with that confidence and competence grows. Well done all.

All Nippers should have received a book of raffle tickets last weekend for our Melbourne Cup Calcutta Fundraiser, if you were not there or did not receive your book, please see your Age Managers this weekend.  These raffle tickets are due back no later than Noon on the 1st November.

Competitors, we have received advice from the Branch that if you intend on competing interstate, you MUST gain clearance from the Far North Coast Branch in advance.  This is for all Surf Lifesaving events ie Wave Warriors, Cooly Gold etc.  Please email Les on competition@cabaslsc.org.au well in advance with your intentions to allow him time to gain clearance.
