Hey Everyone,
Firstly I would like to wish all our Juniors best of luck at Branch Championships this weekend. They have all been training really hard and we know they will do the Club proud. Thank you to all the parents that have been helping out with training week in and week out, particularly during such wet weather of late.
There has been a lot of plans going on with our Lifesaving division of late, firstly with what would have to be said the most talented Bronze/SRC Squad passing their exams last week. The fact that it had two members of the Sommerville Family in itself is proof enough to stake this claim. Our Under 18 Captain Troy Draman has also been busily planning the Patrol Champs, a fun day of competition with each Patrol pitting their various talents against each other. Who will be our winner? Well we know who won’t be! Patrol 8 (Boaties), their training of late has been pretty relaxed with most of them spending more time wetting their insides rather than their outsides.
Speaking of Boaties, with the impending Presentation Night looming and Fairytale being the theme, rumour has it that they were thinking of going as the 7 Dwarves! Unfortunately though there isn’t seven of them and Grumpy, Grumpy, Grumpy, Grumpy and Dopey just isn’t going to cut it. They should feel free to use any of these other suggestions, Shrek, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Beast, Gollum from Lord of the Rings or even Dobby from Harry Potter. All would be more than appropriate, note the common theme. Cheeky I know!
NRL Footy tipping starts Thursday 1st March, so if you haven’t put your name down, get down to the Club and do so before then. $50.00 per person! See Bar Captain. Only 5 nominations so far for AFL Tipping, need 10 to run the Comp.

Patrol Champs - 22nd April - Mate against Mate - Patrol against Patrol - Soar with the eagles or scurry with the crabs. Which Patrol will take out this years Championships????
Lifesaving Presentation Night Saturday 12th May 2012. Please mark this in your Calendars. Theme - Fairytale (New or Old) So start getting your costumes organised. Assorted prizes for best and worst dressed.
Congratulations to our latest Bronze and SRC Squad who passed their final exams last week. It was great to see such a great mix or young and old working together to achieve this. Thank you to Head Trainer Jo Howes, and her Assistants Troy Draman, Hayden Draman and Jodie Muir for all giving up there time to deliver this course.

Hey Everyone,
I hope you have all had a good week.
In true Draman style, we had yet another Code 25 last weekend with Troy manging to remove his toenail quite swiftly and break his toe on some concrete in the gear shed. We don’t know if he was more upset that he lost his toenail or he had to cancel his mani pedi booked in that afternoon. Mani pedi you say? Yes, he wanted to look his best for his planned romantic moonlight paddle with our much loved IRB Captain Kyle Beattie. We hear they had it set for upcoming Valentines Day, but the moon and tides weren’t working in their favour. Now, isn’t that just a bit cute.
The man from below had a frightening near death experience out in the surf this week, he said his life flashed before eyes when our much loved Gym/Patrol/Locker Captain Justine attempted to take him out with a 10 foot rescue board, in true Justine style she was just that excited that she managed to hang on to the board on that rather large wave that she didn’t notice all the blood from his head or the fear on his face.
Cleanliness around the club is starting to slip. The cranky man who reminds people that he is not their mother is upset again over rubbish left around. The cranky man has said that last week he put into the lost property bins 3 armfuls of clothing, two scooters, 3 skateboards and a 6 year old child. The cranky man also nearly had a coniption over the television that has appeared in the gear shed. he said if you have unwanted items at home please don’t think you are doing the Surf Club a favour by bringing it in and leaving it here. Just so you know, Admin Captain doesn’t like it when the Cranky Man rears his Cranky head, so can we all be a little bit more thoughtful.

Hey Everyone,
Firstly a reminder that due to adverse water conditions the Junior Branch Carnival at Yamba has been moved to the weekend of 25th and 26th February 2012. Nippers this weekend has also been moved back to Sunday at normal time.
I would like to wish long term Patrolling Member John Young a big Happy “50th” Birthday! We all celebrated in style last Saturday Night as the Club was invaded by a myriad of pirates and their wenches! Whilst John went MIA for his Morning Patrol Sunday, he was spotted out and about still sporting his eyeliner and mascara! You would have thought someone could have lent him some eye make up remover. We are also not sure if the President read his invite correctly as he looked more like someone from the TV Series “Lost” but at least he tried! It was great to see so many of the Members embrace the theme, I particularly enjoyed the “AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRR” competition to get the night started!
So leading on from that, I am very pleased to announce that the theme for this years Senior Presentation Night is “Fairy Tale”, so put on your thinking caps, crowns, tiaras or maybe even your glass slippers and start getting your costumes together. Modern day fairy tales ie: Harry Potter, Shrek, Toy Story will be acceptable. Before you all argue that Toy Story is not a fairy tale, we are letting this one slide due to the Lifesaving Directors love for all things Buzz and Woody! Go Brettles!
Wanted, an old computer no longer being used. After all that horrible wet weather last week the Computer in the Radio Room finally died. As this is only used to report Patrol Stats etc, we are hoping someone may have a n old one laying around that they may wish to donate. Only requirement is the capability of connecting to the Net.
There is a TV that has been sitting down in the Boat Shed for some time now, it is free to anyone who may like it. If it is still there by Monday it will be filed Patrick style!

Hey Everyone,
Well it hasn't been the greatest of finishes to the school holidays with all this wild wet weather. We hope you are all staying nice and dry and managing to get from A to B in one piece. I was contemplating turning the Surf Club into an Ark, however it appears that the Club is not as watertight as I once thought. Unfortunately, our Bar Captain has become quite handy with a mop, which as history serves is probably a lot safer than a ladder.
Our esteemed IRB Captain Kyle has such a great love of all things boaty, he has taken to driving his 4WD through what seems to be new waterways around Piggabeen, he has renamed his car a "Toybota" Quite clever really! But not quite as clever as entrepreneur Nick Jenkins who offered his 4WD as a Taxi Service (for a nice Fee of course) we just hope that for his customers sake that his choice of music in his car is better then the stuff he plays in the Gym! Pretty sure he almost scared a few new Bronzies off on Monday Night as the music reverberated beneath them during training. This could actually explain all the water that is coming through the Radio Room windows, they may have been shaken loose from their frames!
Patrolling Members, Senior Preso Night date has been set for 12th May, so mark this date in your Calendar now. Our Lifesaving Director is in full swing of preparations and it looks set to be a great night! Hey Everyone,
It was great to see the Nippers back last Sunday although the weather was not that welcoming, they still had lots of fun! Remember Board and Beach Training has been moved to Fridays at 5pm at the Beach (not the lake).
We have had some difficulties with the tractor this week to say the least! The technical term is “it won’t go broom broom”, so after much deliberation between one Lifeguard, one Bar Captain, one Radio Officer and one Admin Captain, it was decided that it could possibly need a new battery. After two trips back and forth to the Mechanic and Admin working out what the difference between positive and negative was, Bogangar Auto kindly donated to the Club a new battery. I am sure they were feeling a bit sorry for us as Admin was a tad flummoxed. We would like to thank them for their generosity and would like to advise all Members that the business will be moving from Cabarita to Pottsville next week.
It has been a busy week here with lots of diners enjoying the view from the deck at lunchtime. Unfortunately, one group had to wait a little longer for their burgers then they would have liked. Jaime Sommerville had a slight mishap on the back stairs which seen burgers, sauce and lettuce defy gravity and actually fall up the stairs. However, Jaime is adamant that she felt a nudge from behind, and that the Ski Captain was so jealous of her new french manicure that he was going to great lengths to sabotage her day. The Cafe now has a new special called “Open Burger - containing a meat pattie with a very tossed french salad”
Kyle Beattie’s woes just seem to continue from week to week, it was only the other week he was complaining that sun screen made it to slippery to paddle on his board, hence he kept falling off. Then this week he was overheard to say that he couldn’t stay out there paddling his board because he wasn’t wearing any sunscreen. Hmmmmmmmm, can’t win I guess! Maybe someone should lend him a rash vest or wetty!

Hey Everyone,
Happy New Year, hope you all had a safe and happy one!
I thought I would start this weeks Weekly Wrap with a Joke.
Q. “How many Bar Captains does it take to change a light bulb?”
A. “Apparently none (read on for further clarification)”
It came to my attention this afternoon that the light globe in upstairs ladies bathroom had seen better days, I thought this would be an opportune time for our Bar Captain to overcome his fear of ladders (please see recent Weekly Wrap, yes the great fall and bounce) anyway, so it was with great spirit and enthusiasm that he appeared, hard hat and ladder in hand, all was going well until I heard a feint smash coming from the Ladies, apparently our Esteemed Bar Captain is not only slight of foot but also slight of hand and managed to drop the only remaining globe, sweaty hands and nerves can do this, but at least he had a go! One Electrician and globe later, I am pleased to say that the Ladies Bathroom is now again fully functional! I think that we could all put this down to a Code 25 (Electrician saving a Dramans butt).
Speaking of slippery hands, apparently there is a certain brand of Sun Block on the market that once wet has a certain reaction with boards causing the rider to no longer have control, I have only overheard this in Radio Room as Kyle Beattie was explaining this to Jaime as to why he was continually separated from his board whilst paddling the other day. We do however think that if this is the case, Kyle should not have lent that certain Sun Block to Fletcher Budd who had a huge separation from his brand new Mal during the week resulting in many new dings, scratches, holes and missing fins. Fletcher did finally recover his board from “Soft Rock,” clearly it isn’t as soft as we all once thought! Thank goodness for all that Double Time recently huh Fletch?
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Murray Neal for stepping up so quickly to challenge for the “Duck Award” with a rather nice flip in the IRB last Sunday, I was only joking about the “this way up” stickers, but if the Drivers keep up the current trend, it may be money well spent!

Hey Everyone,
We hope you all had a very safe and Merry Christmas despite the heavy seas and weather! Hopefully it will start to clean up soon and we can enjoy the rest of the festive season with some sun and safe surf! Remember the Bar is open every day, so get up there and enjoy the best view and coldest beer in Caba! I hear the Bar Captain is always ready for a yarn, so go chew his ear off, there is plenty to chew!
Despite the heavy seas, our ever so brave IRB Drivers and Crew decided to still venture out and hone their skills in some pretty hectic conditions. Our own IRB Captain Kyle Beattie seems determine to win the “Duck Award” at the end of the year with a pretty spectacular flip on Saturday Morning, thankfully it was all captured on the Go Pro Camera and also witnessed by the upcoming Bronze Squad, needless to say, none of which are now that keen on doing their Crewies! We all knew Hayden Draman the Crewie at the time was pretty nimble, but who knew he could fly so high! Not to be outdone, our previous IRB Captain Steve Dale thought he would he would try and one up Kyle with an even more impressive flip two days later, which not only seen the Driver and Crew being rescued but also some of the rescuers requiring to be rescued, confused yet? So it appears there is a bit of competition for this “Duck Award”, it might be time for the other drivers to get in on the action. From a personal point of view as I pay the bills for the repairs to the motors, I am thinking of installing stickers on all IRB’s “This Way Up”, maybe they have all just been a bit confused and can’t tell the top from the bottom.
Patrol One, Whitneys Warriors have come up with a New Code to be used in an emergency! It is Code 25 and can be used for any of the following: “a Draman requiring rescuing”, “ a Draman in need of First Aid”, “a Draman requiring an Ambulance” or the ever popular “a Draman lost at schoolies, please return home”. We are a bit concerned that Code 25 may become our most used code and Surf Life Saving Australia may have to introduce this into the next Bronze Manual. Watch this space!
Apparently my skills at playing Cupid are falling far short of the mark, as all my calls of late have only ended in heartbreak, so I have decided to put my skills to good rather than evil! Anyone looking at ending a romance, email me your names, I will whack them in the Weekly Wrap and whoolah, job done! I do jest, and hopefully my radar will improve with age, who knows the rest of me has!

Hey Everyone,
We are looking forward to seeing all the Patrolling Members and their families up here tonight for some festive fun! Hope you can all make it! Wanda is looking splendiferous if her Christmas attire and ready to welcome you all!
Apparently white men can jump and they can also fall! Quite heavily in fact! After a very long day last week it was with great horror that I looked up from the deck to watch our esteemed Bar Captain ride a ladder from 6 foot up to the floor with a heavy thud. He then bounced a couple of times and managed to land in the recovery position. If he was unconscious, I soon remedied that with my high pitch screams for help down the Members stair well. For updates on his condition, please refer to the various stripey bruises up and down his leg. Needless to say the ladder has been filed, Patrick style!
It was great to see Member Nathan Brider training a bit harder than usual by taking a long ocean swim last week. We were all very impressed until we realised he was chasing the jetski that he somehow managed to lose. We are pleased to say that they are now both safe and well on dry land.
It would be remiss of me not to wish our much loved IRB Captain Kyle Beattie a big Happy 18th Birthday. Early reports coming back from his little celebration indicate that three go carts, one chicken and Hayden Draman were all sacrificed for the enjoyment and merriment of others. They were all pretty slow to rise and get down the Club the next morning, so we don't think that there was much sleep to be had. Kyle and Jaime Sommerville however did manage to drag themselves down to Byron Bay for a spinal course the following day, lets just hope that they took lots of notes.

Hey Everyone,
As most of you may know it has been a very busy time for us at the Club this week. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Members who gave up their days and donated their time to assist us with the search and rescue, it wasn't an easy task and the weather did not do us any favours. It was fantastic to see the support that you all provided each other over the week and the way you all came together and worked effectively as a team. We have had nothing but praise from the other authorities involved. It was also overwhelming to see the amount of younger Members who were here first thing every morning and last to leave every afternoon, not only from our Club but also other Clubs in the area, if this is the future of Lifesaving, we are in safe hands!
We would also like the thank the Members of the Community who came and offered support in various ways, it was comforting to know that we had the whole Tweed Coast behind us.
Finally, we would like to extend our most sincere condolences to Bernie, Sandy and the rest of Sams family and friends.

Hey Everyone,
Great to see the nippers turn up for board training on Thursday afternoon. Despite the atrocious conditions ( I thought I must have dozed off and woken up in Melbourne in the middle of winter) 10 or 12 brave souls turned up to take instruction from Sensei Les in the art of board paddling.A stirring sight, especially as I was warmly ensconced in the members area watching on. The northerly sweep was so strong some of the kids thought they'd transferred to Cudgen. Best of luck to all those competing in Byron Bay over the weekend, I hope the conditions improve a bit for you all.
Last Sunday a group of our young adult members all chipped in and bought the winning raffle ticket in The Boaties raffle. They then proceeded to get out the BBQ and cook up their prize whilst enjoying a friendly game of basketball out the front of the club. It was great to see so many of them enjoying their club and socialising together at the end of the week. Patrols finished, time to relax, good work guys.
Luckily our Admin Captain is not in charge of transportation or security. Rode to work, locked bike up, performed administration role, superbly, then realised ....... &*$#%@... no keys with which to unlock bicycle. Bar Captain came to the rescue with loan vehicle and then had to demonstrate how to start said vehicle. (depress clutch with left foot, turn key with right hand,........ damn these manual cars are tricky!!). Not exactly a shining moment in the life of our favourite blonde.
The man from down below has this week sunk to a new low with his criticism of the current viewing schedule at the club. Not content with ridiculing the past three weeks of scintillating golf he now dares to deride our national sport. While proud Aussies and Kiwis stood shoulder to shoulder to watch their gladiators do battle in the First Test, himself was spotted in the corner mumbling something about "cure for insomnia".... for shame. The man in question is also questioning the ethics and morals of the modern day thief. Somebody had the hide to steal the ashtray from his ute but left the ute. No manners these guys, what's the world coming to.
